BEWARE OF FAKE AGARWOOD BRACELETS

Just sharing my losses.
Take it as a good learning experience. Please like and share.
All the bracelets in the photos are fakes. There are in total 3 Fake Bracelet:
1. Wild Tarakan Tiger skinned agarwood bracelet.
2. Kynam Agarwood bracelet(sinking): Abacus Shaped for prosperity.
3) Kynam Agarwood bracelet(sinking): Standard round bracelet
My Sharing:
I called myself a very season agarwood collector and agarwood extractor. Even myself who owns real Kynam Agarwood falls prey to these fake bracelets/scams.
Why?? Usually when we select bracelet, in order to know if the agarwood is real especially when it comes to near sinking, sinking grade or especially wild agarwood. We will test the 3 most important areas.
1. See the wood linings using magnifying glass. Agarwood has black/ brass oil glance where the oil appears.
2. Water test. Common to test water to see if the piece sinks if it’s a sinking grade and also to see if it’s submerge in chemical. Usually the colour will come off.
3. Most importantly.. the Smell but this is only possible if ur buying from local shops. Only very season players can identify the difference between chemical smell and genuine agarwood smell. It is at times extremely difficult to tell them apart especially AAA grade fakes.
The above are AAA+ Grade fake bracelet. I’m blown away.
A) The oil glance are exactly like real ones close up.
B) Passed water test and color test upon test on site.
C) Has faint chemical smell on wild agarwood but v strong chemical smell on Kynam bracelet. (I have Kynam of diff species so I know their smell) - failed
D) Cutting the beads in half and light it on fire. this is the most heart breaking test and only recommend on wild agarwood bracelet becos of its value) u should see the oil popping as the fire burns the bead. (Disclaimer please only try this method if u don’t mind losing the bead or have extra beads, just a suggestion and I will not be held responsible for any cause). Usually fakes should fail at C)
C) Was what gotten my suspicion up. I went and further the test. To submerge in warm water for a min or 2.(Shops will nv let u do this btw. I test it after I’ve already bought the bracelet). The color fades off unnaturally.(clarify that sinking grade agarwood has fades off in colour but it’s a natural fade off not like in the pic(last 3)
Finally: Pricy doesn’t always mean it’s genuine. I won’t reveal the price but the above 3 bracelet are not cheap.
Thanks for reading so far. Please do share this knowledge with friends and loved ones. Agarwood industry is a lucrative business and there are many many fakes out there that even experts will fall prey to them! It’s a never ending learning journey as a agarwood lover! Cheers & Signing off :)
